How to maintain the shine of the plated
jewelry.

Constant friction on your plated jewelry with hard objects or when heavy activities are carried out with tools, mechanical work, electricity, etc., can wear out your pieces. Avoid using them during activities. There is also damage to the stone when used with other pieces such as bracelets, watches or wristlets.

The contact of your plated jewelry with chemical substances produces alterations and deteriorations. Therefore, it is recommended to people who work in hospitals, clinics, laboratories, offices and beauty salons to be careful with mercury, iodine, caustic soda, dye liquids, permanent liquids, acetone, hydrogen peroxide, chlorine, etc.

Do not use creams, tanning lotions, lotions, perfumes and oils in direct contact with the pieces, they infiltrate the spaces between the stones and the base of the veneer, in the chains and earrings, leaving the pieces opaque and causing deterioration. It is best not to wear the plated jewelry when in contact with these products.

Wash your veneered jewelry only with water and neutral shampoo. Do not try to give shine using steel sponge or any type of abrasive such as polishes, toothpaste, etc. Ideally, use a flannel suitable for jewelry. Try not to take a bath with your plated jewelry, wash dishes or take pool baths, so that the piece does not become opaque and lose its original color.

To preserve its shine, silver requires certain care. Rarely used pieces should be cleaned immediately after use and kept in a dry place and wrapped in paper towels. Parts in use will undergo normal oxidation and may eventually need to be polished with a polishing machine.

Silver is particularly sensitive to sulfur and chlorine. These elements are found in the composition of various household products such as bleach (contains chlorine), antiseptic powders (contains sulfur), white glues (contains sulfur), creamy hydrogen peroxide (contains sulfur).

Some foods like eggs, onions and mayonnaise can darken silver. The use of latex gloves and contact with fossil fuels can also cause the silver to darken.
To increase the durability of silver shine, therefore, avoid wearing your silver jewelry while handling these products and foods. Also avoid storing them in boxes or bags glued with white glue.
The main cause for the darkening of silver, however, is air pollution, especially in places with intense vehicle traffic. Exhaust gases contain an abundance of sulfur. If these recommendations are observed, your plated jewelry will last for many years.
